Some thoughts on being honest
For me, honesty has been something that has caused me immense amount of problems both at home and at work yet it has also helped me to build long lasting, sincere relationships with many colleagues, bosses, friends and loved ones. I love the challenge of sharing my honest thought even if I should probably just shut up.
When combined with empathy and a genuine interest in helping others, honesty can be a very powerful tool at home and at work. Do you have to share everything? No of course not but there are times when just going along and saying what you think someone should hear isn't enough.
It is surprisingly difficult to be really honest about everything in life or at work. Being able to step back and be honest with yourself about a situation is really very difficult. It sometimes requires a separation from your emotions in order to be honest with oneself.
Being honest with yourself raises all kinds of fears and challenges that we don't always want to deal with yet if we can overcome these then we can start to use our honesty skills to help our colleagues solve problems, win more sales from customers that respect us more and maybe help our bosses free up the chains so we can work from home more often.
